Five Principles
Unity has no set creed or dogma that its members must follow. Unity encourages people to explore and apply Unity teachings based on their own spiritual understanding. This spiritual understanding is enhanced through reflective prayer and meditation.
The five basic ideas of the Unity belief system are:
1 God is all-good and is present everywhere.
2 The spirit of God lives within each person.
3 We create our life experiences through our thoughts.
4 There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God.
5 Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.

About Unity Center DC
A Brief History
Unity Center DC was founded by the late Reverend Amalie Frank in 1994. Originally located on Capitol Hill in Southeast Washington, we relocated in 2000 to the National Cathedral School on the grounds of the National Cathedral in Northwest Washington, DC, in 2012 moved to the Penn Quarter in the heart of Washington at the First Congregational Church, and in 2015 moved to our current church home in the St Luke’s Mission Center in Glover Park, just north of Georgetown.
Structure
- We are a member of the Association of Unity Churches, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
- Reverend Sandra Butler is serving as our transitional ministerial consultant and Senior Minister.
- We are governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees which is elected by the membership at our annual membership meeting held in November.
- We have three paid positions: Minister, Music Director and Office Manager. All other activities are contributed by volunteers.
- We are a non-profit, charitable organization, 501(3)(c), incorporated in the District of Columbia.
Board of Trustees
Trustees of our Board are volunteers who are members of Unity Center DC. Trustees each serve a two-year term on a rotational basis. Elections for the trustees are held at the annual membership meeting on the first Sunday of November.
Please feel free to contact any board member with suggestions, questions, praises, or concerns. We believe an open dialog is a vital element of a loving relationship and welcome all input.
